On October 10, the World University Leadership Forum on Materials Science and Engineering opened in Wuhan. More than 100 scientists, experts and scholars from nearly 100 well-known universities and colleges in the field of global materials science participated in the Forum, which won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016.
With the theme of "Sustainable Development of Material Science and Engineering in the 21st Century", this forum will carry out in-depth exchanges and discussions around such important topics as education and reform of materials science and engineering, new research frontiers of materials science and engineering, look forward to the prospects of global material science development, and will issue the Wuhan Declaration on Sustainable Development of Materials Science and Engineering in the 21st Century.
Zhang Qingjie, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of Wuhan University of Technology, Academician of American Academy of Engineering, President of University of California Irvine, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of Chinese Society for Materials Research, Paul Evans, Director of Natural Science in Greater China, and Li Jing, President of Xiangyang No. 4, delivered speeches at the conference.
In his speech, Zhang Qingjie said that the forum provides an opportunity for the global material science community to change its discipline, a platform to promote exchanges, cooperation and harvest friendship, combining the current materials science and engineering education and reform, the new research frontiers of materials science and engineering, the emerging industries of new materials strategy and the major areas of national demand.
In his speech, Enrique Lavane said that in the field of material science research, we should focus on finding the key points of research and problem solving, and at the same time we need to strengthen communication in order to get inspiration to promote the development of material science research.
